19,600 pounds of fruit!

Lettuce Link's Community Fruit Tree Harvest has come to a close for the 2009 season, and what a season it was! Over 80 volunteers harvested over 19,600 pounds of fruit from 165 different sites across the city and donated it to 45 different food banks, meals programs, shelters, and community organizations.

This was the season of plums. Italian prune plums reigned supreme in Seattle backyards this season and, despite a terrible year for apples, we were able to harvest over 5,000 lbs more fruit than last season.

A big thank you to our dedicated fruit harvest volunteers! They transported ladders, worked with fruit tree owners, picked loads of fruit, donated it to the food bank, and kept us harvesting all summer long.

The Community Fruit Tree harvest connects homeowners with residential fruit trees to volunteers who help to harvest excess fruit and donate it to Seattle food banks, meals programs, shelters, and community organizations. Volunteers pick pesticide-free apple, pear, Asian pear, and plum trees.
