Arugula and Artichokes

We're awash with wonderful volunteer groups at Marra Farm! Thanks to the dedication of our farm manager Sue McGann, and the fantastic flow of volunteers, there's a whole lot of food growing at Marra this spring.

Each time I go down to Marra to learn with the 3rd graders or harvest with volunteers, I discover something new - be it about arugula or artichokes.

Artichokes are a crazy sight at Marra. These perennials always elicit exclamations of amazement. Their leaves sprawl out like a jungle and a little artichoke comes out of the top.

Artichokes! And ladybugs for luck.

Arugula flowers are a favorite among the 3rd grade crowd - we've decided they taste like peanuts. Who doesn't love to eat a flower?

We harvested rows and rows of lettuce last Friday for Providence Regina House Food Bank in South Park. Make way for tomatoes, corn, and summer sun!
